A survey from NPD group as published in CNBC reveals that, this year more Americans are expected to begin their holiday shopping in the middle of the season, or Thanksgiving weekend, as opposed to late in the season, or early December. NPD had surveyed nearly 3,800 U.S. consumers during the month of September to understand their holiday purchase intentions.
According to Analyst with NPD Group, Mr.Marshal Cohen, consumers are shopping during the Thanksgiving weekend as opposed to wait until it gets over. Shopping late at holiday season is seeing a downward trend over the past decade and instead consumers are shifting for an early shopping.
As per NPD comparison with past trend, in 2017 about 30 percent of U.S. consumers plan to commence their holiday shopping over Thanksgiving weekend, compared to only 12 to 16 percent in the years prior to 2014.
When it comes to digital, according to Cohen, there will be a boost up in the sales through online during the 2017 holiday season. NPD has further identified that roughly two-thirds of shoppers across the U.S. plan to complete at least a portion of their holiday shopping through digital channels this year.
